So, let me show you how to customize it to fit your needs. However, very often, the Finder app can be customized, and the look may be different. The good thing is that Finder is the only app that cannot be removed from the Dock (a strip of icons that look like a Taskbar in Windows). This was a default behavior assuming you never made any changes and your MacBook is fresh out of the box. Click on the icon and find the Macintosh HD item in the left sidebar of the Finder. By default, the Finder app icon is the first in the Dock, and it looks like a Picasso-style smiling face. Use the Finder app to browse the hard drive on Mac. Let me show you how to use Mac if you are a beginner. Instead, users have their own folders and don’t have access to other users’ space. Having a C drive that can be accessed unrestricted by anyone who can log in to Mac is against its philosophy. The macOS was built from NeXTSTEP, a variant of UNIX, and as such, it is an operating system designed to be shared by multiple users. UNIX, on the other hand, was always a multi-user system and users always had to share the storage with other users. It was the system designed for one user, and the user had access to the entire disk (there were no hard drives at that time). The remote ancestor of Windows was DOS (disk operating system). Long story short, there were many operating systems initially, but only two major ones stayed relevant: UNIX and Windows.

I’ve been developing software for decades, and I even remember how the personal computer industry has started. Among them are Favorites, Tags, and Recents smart folders in the Finder app. Apple computers use a different way to organize files and folders on their disks. A brand new Mac has default storage called Machontosh HD, a rough equivalent of a C hard drive in macOS. Usually, when you get a brand new PC, you know that all files are located on C Drive. The first thing I tried to figure out is the files and folders structure. So, I understand the frustration of someone who picked a MacBook for the first time and trying to know where things are. Moreover, I started this blog entirely dedicated to Apple products. Slowly I get used to Apple products and user interface, and now I own five MacBooks, a Mac mini, an iPad, several iPhones, and Apple watches. After trying to figure out how the Mac operating system works, I finally gave up and installed Windows on my Mac mini (my first Apple computer). If you can't help, please scroll on or just upvote the post.It took me a long time to switch from PCs to Macs. I'm stubborn af and am not going to uninstall/reformat the entire drive after getting Windows 10, so any unhelpful comments that point this obvious fact out will just be ignored. I can obviously do this if I had macOS installed on the laptop, but clearly that's not the case. I am wondering if anyone has done this, or have any tips? I see that Paragon Software ( ) has a software that lets you read/write to APFS, but not create APFS volumes/partitions.

I now need to install MacOS onto a APFS partition on the SSD.

I just simply installed Windows 10 to the Macbook Pro on a single NTFS partition, and it has been working fine (sans the audio drivers, but that's a whole different story). So I recently replaced HDD with an SSD in a 2012/2013 MacBook Pro, and was having a hell of a time dealing with creating an Apple/MacOS boot drive.
